Having never been the religious types, Amy and I didn’t want a Christening for Eden. We did, however, want some kind of formal acknowledgement of her. Some kind of “Welcome to the Family” type party. We found what we needed in the form of a Naming Day.
On the weekend just gone we gathered with family and friends at Amy’s dad’s house for Eden’s naming day. We had gone for an Alice in Wonderland theme and called it “A Very Merry Unchristening”. Amy’s stepmum had worked hard making just about every type of cupcake that exists on the planet, and we spent much of the morning putting the finishing touches to the party. I was proud of my small army of food labels for the card people that Amy’s stepmum had lovingly made.
It was an absolutely beautiful day, if a little windy, but the sun stayed out all day long for us. Amy’s dad has the most fantastic garden, so it was great to be able to have the party out there. There were bubbles for the kids, plenty of grass to run around on, and gazebos to keep everyone who wanted to be in the shade covered. Amy’s dad and stepmum had made some awesome “this way/that way” type arrow signs and we decorated with Alice bunting and themed bits and bats.
The guests soon started arriving and we spent the most lovely afternoon surrounded by family, friends and cake. Amy’s stepmum made a lovely speech and my dad played a few bits on his bagpipes (yes, bagpipes – you read that right!) which sounded awesome in the garden. I barely saw Eden all afternoon as she was being absolutely spoiled by her guests, including having a nap on one of my friends!
It was a great afternoon and I’m so grateful to all of those that attended. It’s amazing to have family and friends all in the same place at the same time, ad although some people were unable to make it, we had a fabulous afternoon in the sunshine.
I know Eden won’t remember any of it, but I’m hoping she will look at the photos when she is older and know how loved she is and always has been. Quite a lot came together to make the party happen and I’m glad it went off without a hitch, even if the occasional wind did mean we almost ended up in the merry old land of Oz!
Thanks again to those who came and spent the afternoon with us and our little lady.
That looks amazing!
What a fun day!
