Is Spearmint Tea the Answer?

As many of you know, myself and a couple of friends have been carrying out a bit of an experiment with spearmint tea. Apparently, spearmint tea can help lower testosterone when consumed in quantities of as little as two cups a day. Testosterone is a major issue for women with PCOS. It can stop you ovulating and cause a lot of the other PCOS-related nasties such as extra hair growth.

I like a bit of science and figured that it might help, but it definitely won’t hurt anything. So, I purchased some spearmint tea and got to drinking my two cups a day. I usually drink it after lunch and then after dinner as it also helps with bloating, which is also very helpful! Last cycle I only started drinking it three days or so before my positive OPK, which was on cycle day eighteen. I ovulated on cycle day twenty that cycle, but having done that before I put it aside as just a fluke and not necessarily attributed to the tea.

chartI drank the tea all the way through my two week wait and al the way through my period. This cycle I ovulated on cycle day FIFTEEN for the first time EVER. ย The only thing I have done differently is the tea. Needess to say I’m pretty happy with the results! I’m hoping my temperature continues to rise in order to confirm ovulation 100% for this cycle. But our donations on 3 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation were great for timing!

One of my trying to conceive buddies suffers with hypothyroidism as well as PCOS and started drinking two cups of Spearmint tea a day a few days before me. This cycle, she ovulated ON HER OWN for the first time ever. This particular friend usually has to take clomid or femara to force ovulation. At the time of writing, crosshairs have appeared on her Fertiltiy Friend chart with no meds needed! This friend also had a testosterone draw before she started spearming tea, and again about five/six weeks in. The original number was 56. The latest number is 35! Which is an incredible drop for just a few weeks!

Anyhow, I’m looking forward to continuing with the Spearmint tea and seeing how it ends up. If getting a BFP is this easy I will be shocked after trying for this long! But even if it just helps with the ovulation side of things, it is a start. Especially when it is something as cheap and cheerful as spearmint tea. I’ve been using Cool Mint by Pukka Tea, Clipper After Dinner Mint tea and Dragonfly Moroccan Mint, but my friend has been using pure loose leaf spearmint.

Also, for anyone interested and on Baby and Bump, we have a little Spearmint Tea Group to further the experiment.ย http://babyandbump.momtastic.com/ttc-groups/2273879-spearmint-cysters-science.html Newbies Welcome!

Two days post ovulation. Let’s see how this pans out!

Thank you for the suggestion! I was wondering if its mixed with peppermint if you have tried that? I could not find just spearmint at the store, but want to try this and give it a whirl!

Hi all. I’ve heard of spearmint tea being the miracle cure for PCOS which is why I purchased it. And needless to say my body now craves it. But I don’t know how often and when to take it during my cycle. Finding myself very tearful and spotting. Any advice would make me love you forever…. Lol

    • It’s far from a miracle cure. Studies show that three or more cups of spearmint tea daily CAN help with high testosterone. It doesn’t always, but it does in some cases. Personally I drank two or three cups daily. It did shorten my cycles and it did help with the hair side of things, but it didn’t help me get pregnant.
      Good luck x
